It’s the second week in January, and people everywhere are digging in to their New Year’s resolutions and goals. The turn of a year is a great time to set some intentions for the next twelve months, and whether you are a fan of personal resolutions or not, this can be the perfect time to develop some resolutions for your 2018 social media marketing.
Here are a few ideas:
1) Get on top of trends
There are so many changes in content marketing and social media with each passing day, and it’s important to have a basic knowledge of trends that are headed your way and may affect your business in the near future. You don’t have to be on the bleeding edge with adopting new trends, or chase every one of them like a distracted squirrel. But you do at least need to be aware of them.
2) Revisit your tone and style
Has your social media presence gotten a bit stale? Has it gotten easier to just share or retweet a post instead of creating something new and fresh? Or have you strayed a bit from your original tone or style of copywriting? The new year is a great time to take a look at the types of posts you are creating, and see if you want to tighten up your branding with new, fresh and focused content.
3) Refresh your strategy
At the end of each year, it is a must to take a look in reverse. Pull all the relevant data, sit down with a cup of coffee and be brutally honest with yourself about what worked and what didn’t. Don’t be afraid to kill any sacred cows in your content strategy and replace them with something new, even if you aren’t 100% sure what the outcome will be. Social media and content is all about testing and seeing what sticks. Get to know what has worked for you, and refresh your 2018 strategy appropriately.
4) Switch up your skins
Social media is a visual experience, and your “social skins” are your potential customers first impression of your company. These skins include your cover photo and profile photo, along with any other branded images or backgrounds you place on your social profiles. We recommend updating those quarterly at a minimum, as well as any time you are launching a new campaign. But if you haven’t in a while, the first of the year is a great time to updated your look and give your audience a fresh new experience with your social media profiles.
5) Try something new
Don’t be afraid to try a new approach this year! Have you always been wanting to try video? Go for it! Maybe you have hovered your finger over the FB Live button a few times, but lost your nerve. Take the leap and hit the “Go Live” button! Are you wondering how much more you could reach your audience with targeted ads? Hit “boost post” and see what happens. Remember that social media is always changing and evolving, and it gives you the opportunity to try new methods at a low cost and low risk entry point. So what are you waiting for?
